CNN Dad Panel At the M3Summit

by admin on September 26, 2010

When I attended and spoke at the recent conference on Dad’s I had the opportunity to sit down with a few other men and discuss Dad Blogging with CNN. I hope you enjoyed the clip. There were a number of topics talked about during the interview and this is just a short compilation of the discussion. I have a points I’d like to make since the clip implies that we are all stay at home dads.

  1. All of the dads interviewed were working dads
  2. I believe 5 out of 6 of the dads interviewed make a full time income, either from their blog/internet work or from a separate job such as myself.
  3. 2 of the 6 dads interviewed are really making a full time income from the blogging efforts.
  4. I’d like to thank CNN and all the other dads for the great discussion we had.

What is the average age of the participating dads?

I was the youngest at 35 and the others ranged up to 45ish

I did catch that it gave the appearance you were all stay at home dads, which clearly isn't the case. Still, it was a pretty decent job by CNN of representing the message. After having been duped by a magazine on an article I was in I've become gun shy of the spin they'll put on stories like this.

That was a very cool tv spot. Good to hear from some great dads. It was also without spin and showed dads in a realistic light. Go dads.

Great exposure & great answers from the whole crew. Kuddos. My only issue with CNN's side of the report is that it's sort of convoluted, taking today's new involved fathers who blog and hinting that there's money in the blogging end.

That is no reflection whatsoever on all you guys interviewed. You all represented!

I still take issue with the idea that dad blogs are new because we aren't. We have been around as long as any other group of bloggers.

The CNN piece was great for increasing awareness of dads talking about being dads online. But the CNN dudes (Josh excepted) couldn't have been more offensive in the lead-in. They seemed to have softened their jabs in a subsequent version of the same story. Kudos for getting the piece to air.

I think the piece is great. Never assume people know something like this exists–even if it has for some time. Education…education…education…
