Poetry and a gift

by admin on April 21, 2010

Today’s post comes to you from a guest. A few months ago I wrote a guest blog for him Whaler with the idea that he would give me a guest blog to post as well. Last night as I was about to write today’s post I saw in my email  a request to guest post. I read the post and felt it fit in with todays theme and I was exhausted so this came as a gift. Jeremy’s site is Chew the Fat.

Why poetry?  Because good dads aren’t afraid to appear foolish. – Jeremy the Warrior Poet.

Poetry is the art of creating imaginary gardens with real toads. -Marianne Moore

I firmly believe that being a father has made me one of the luckiest men alive.  Lately as I watch TV less and write more, the sense of grateful wonder has been growing inside me.  I have been blogging like a play tennis – the best I can, not often enough, but with great satisfaction.  Things really haven’t turned out the way I planned…yet, but I also believe that life is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans.  It’s better for me to live in the moment.

I would love to be a well respected blogger.  I would love to be 185 pounds.  I would love to be Teacher of the Year.  Of all the things I would love to be it’s being a daddy that I love the most.

These days I worry less about most everything.  I read stories with my little girl.  I try to show my wife I love her with a surprise round of folding laundry.  I aspire to be a warrior poet – passionate about life and an observer of beauty.  Is there anything better than hearing your daughter call you “Daddy”?  What’s a better way to pass the time, watching breaking news or writing a poem to my daughter.  You can see my answer below.

daddy

daddy read this to me
daddy hug
daddy more please
daddy sesame street
daddy i love you
daughter I love
“daddy” sounds so sweet to me
