The Pain has receded

by admin on August 20, 2010

Well my last few posts have been about the vasectomy and this will be the last post about it. Today has been a week since the procedure was performed and there is still some minimal pain but I suspect that will be gone by tomorrow and I’d call it more of an annoyance than actual pain at this point.  There are a couple of key points I want to make sure I communicate to anyone who might be considering the procedure.

1) Since I know guys won’t lie about things like this, I take it as a fact that the pain is different for everyone who has the procedure. But some people’s anatomy make it more painful than others. The pain was intense and sever from my perspective.

2) The procedure can be scheduled to be performed in an operating room and they will put you under. This will take a procedure that took about 10 minutes and make it 3 -4 hrs because you will have to spend time getting to the hospital, getting admitted, having the anesthesia administered and then recovering from the anesthesia. I assume that the pain afterward will be the same but perhaps being less tense during the procedure would decrease the pain afterward.

3) The option to have the procedure done in the office is probably much easier logistically and maybe a better option but if I had to go through it again I would choose to go under.

4) As    birth control options go, I think it is a very good option. I have three children whom I love dearly but I don’t want anymore. I’ve heard @daddybrad say he’s worried about an end of world scenario where he has to repopulate. I say, I’d just keep trying and not worry about the fact that we weren’t having any success. This procedure is much less invasive than the procedures for women.

5) Finally we need an alternative form of permanent or semi-permanent birth control. If there are any genius doctors out there figure one out that doesn’t cause this type of pain and you will be rich beyond belief.

I'm still a ways away from THE procedure, as I like to call it, but a lot of dads tell me it doesn't hurt…it's just snip snip. So it's good to hear your take on it. Though I'm sure it won't help the pain anymore.
